Middle Marsyangdi Hydroelectric Project
Melamchi water Supply Project
The melamchi water supply project is an inter-basin water transfer project for the supply of 170 mld drinking water to the capital city Kathmandu. Its key components are a water diversion tunnel of 26 km length, water treatment plant of 510 mld capacity, bulk distribution system of 57.52 km, rehabilitation of water supply distribution networks and rehabilitation of sewer system & wastewater treatment plant. The project cost is estimated at US$ 460 million.
EIA of Industrial and Infrastructure Development Projects
NESS is the leading consulting firm in the field of Environmental Impact Assessment of industrial and infrastructure development projects in Nepal. Nearly 30% of the approved EIA studies by the Ministry of Environment, Nepal were conducted by our firm. The company takes pride in successfully accomplishing EIA studies of currently under construction mega projects, and Middle Marsyangdi Hydro-electric Project funded by ADB and KfW.
Noise Level Monitoring and Assessment
Regular and simultaneous measurements of noise levels along with air, water and waste water were carried out at vehicular traffic/ commercial/ industrial/ background etc locations in Kathmandu, Bhote Koshi Hydroelectric project, Mahakali Irrigation project, Middle Marsyangadi Hydroelectric Project etc as part of the background noise level assessment and project compliance assessment. Besides noise level assessment at Kirtipur, Madyapur Thimi, and Dharan Municipalities were carried out for the environmental evaluation of the above municipalities under the National Society for Earthquake Technology Nepal (NSET) funded by USAID.
Wastewater Monitoring and Assessment
Air Quality Monitoring and Assessment
NESS has also developed rich experience in air quality monitoring and assessment by executing scores of air quality reality related projects (outdoor and indoor), not only inside Kathmandu valley but also outside the valley, such as, participating actively and working closely with donor and government agencies in designing / implementing initial phases of establishing 6 permanent ambient air quality monitoring stations of the valley. Two of them in particular, carried out by NESS from mid 1998 to end 1999 are 24 hour ambient air quality monitoring at 9 selected locations in 8 cycle (ADB/MOPE Project) and 1 hour air quality monitoring at 7 selected roadside locations daily for the year 1998-1999 (Sagarmatha/ DANIDA Project). NESS was involved in the daily air quality monitoring program of Kathmandu valley from 2002 to 2005 funded by ESPS/DANIDA under the Ministry of Population and Environment. Apart from the above, the company has been engaged since 2007 in ambient air quality monitoring at selected locations along Biratnagar- Dhankuta industrial corridor under SEAM-n funded by FINNIDA.
Water Supply and Sanitation
This is dominating the world agenda in many respects because the world is getting plenty of wastewater and floodwater and less of fresh and safe water. In Nepal, planners and policy makers always boast of Nepal being water resourceful country but safe water scarcity is a household cry both in cities and villages. In urban water supply and sanitation, we are in business of surveying, designing, quality testing, and construction supervision of Small Town Water Supply and Sanitation Sector Projects (Kusma and Beni towns in Western Nepal) funded by Asian Development Bank.
Water Quality Monitoring and Assessment
Our company has carried out a number of projects related to water quality monitoring of water supply projects covering almost all eco-regions from the high mountain to the terai plains in different areas of Nepal. In rural projects, we have studied hundreds of water supply schemes with surface and groundwater sources at various development phases: source identification, construction, and implementation including performance evaluation of completed schemes. The study parameters include condition of source catchments, water pollution risks at strategic points of the supply line from intake down to the household; carrying out sanitary inspection at all water points; water sampling, and testing; assessing the performance of each scheme visited; and then recommending appropriate measures to improve the supply of water in quality and quantity. Some of the key clients serviced by our company are Rural Water Supplies and Sanitation Fund Development Board, funded by the World Bank, Rural Village Water Resource Management Project funded by Denmark (DANIDA), Rural Water Supplies and Sanitation Sector Project funded by Finland (FINIDA) etc.
